We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works.

But only a fraction of us are learning how technology works. Only 51% of all high schools teach computer science.

That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 6-12). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code. Our Hour of Code is making a statement that Chesnut is ready to teach these foundational 21st-century skills. To continue bringing programming activities to your students, we want to make our Hour of Code event huge. I encourage you to share the news on social media channels and consider hosting additional Hour of Code events in the community.

This is a chance to change the future of education in Dunwoody.

See http://hourofcode.com/us/en for details and help spread the word.

On Monday, November 8th, we will kick off Literacy Week.  Our culminating event will be our Book Character Parade beginning at 8:15 AM on November 12, 2021.   Parents are invited and will be ask to stand in the designated areas.

We are committed to maintaining a school culture that celebrates the rich cultural diversity within our school community as well as exposing students to diverse learning experiences.  With Hispanic Heritage Month, grade levels are researching famous and influential Hispanic Americans along with the great contributions they have made to our society.   This past week students took great pride in their projects and were proud to share with teachers, classmates and me. This coming week we look forward to include fun facts, trivia, videos and literature books related Hispanic Heritage Month.  Here is a quick trivia question for you.  Who was the first Hispanic Woman to go into space? She was also the second woman to become the Director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
